My message to CNN”S Johnathan Klein:

Dear Mr. Klein,

As a viewer of CNN, I am becoming increasing disturbed by Lou Dobbs CNN show. As a El Paso, Texas area border resident, I resent Mr. Dobbs characterization of our home here on the US Mexico border. I understand Mr. Dobbs is scheduled to broadcast his CNN radio show from Capitol Hill from the FAIR “Hold their Feet to the Fire” legislative advocacy conference. FAIR was founded by a man with a history of giving his racist beliefs to those who will listen. Unfortunately, some in our society do listen to him. FAIR has correctly been labeled as a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Mr. Dobbs represents an ongoing threat to CNN’s credibility as a serious news organization, in no small part because of his one-sided and error-prone coverage of immigration issues and his continued use of his CNN show to lend prominence to hatemongering groups like FAIR. Dobbs should not be allowed by CNN to use their name to participate in this event. This goes far beyond editorial comment, this event is sponsored by a group that uses hate and fear to get attention and enlist new members.

If CNN continues to condone and sponsor this kind of activity, I will contact CNN’s advertisers with my complaint and stop watching CNN altogether.

CNN’s Dobbs to rally hate group’s troops
On September 15 and 16, Dobbs is scheduled to broadcast his radio show from Capitol Hill as a leading voice of the annual “Hold Their Feet to the Fire” legislative advocacy conference and rally sponsored by the rabidly anti-immigrant organization Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).

Founded by a man with a history of espousing racist beliefs and who remains on its board, FAIR is labeled as a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Dobbs’ participation — and, through him, CNN’s — will bestow mainstream legitimacy on the rally and on FAIR, something FAIR recognizes and is bragging about to its members.

As Media Matters has highlighted repeatedly, Dobbs represents an ongoing threat to CNN’s credibility as a serious news organization, in no small part because of his one-sided and error-prone coverage of immigration issues and his continued use of his CNN show to lend prominence to hatemongering groups like FAIR. Dobbs must not be allowed to participate in this event. Email CNN and ask them to stop Dobbs.

  1. Why exactly is this worthy of publication?

So what? people write letters to media outlets by the thousands every day..WHO CARES???

Are we supposed to care because this this guy is (to use your title) “an activist for human rights causes” – which is debatable at the least.

So basically you will publish anyone’s letter they send in to you? are you kidding me?

You must be really desperate for content if THIS is what you have to publish…

  2. And I feel that Addington has no credibility because he is a member
of the new National Socialist Party
and is against the best interests of
    the American people and nation.

  3. One point’s really disturbing. The SPLC, I’ve tagged along behind for 12-15 years at least. They’re about as dead center on target as you can get when it comes to social minimalism and yaahoos. Is ol’ Add correct in their labeling of FAIR?

  4. Tom Jefferson – Capitalism is dead!! Are you the only one in this country that isn’t aware of what capitalism has wrought our economy? Where have you been while capitalist worldwide are eagerly accepting government investment to save their companies and their luxurious lifestyles?

  5. Mr. Addington is a total publicity seeker, who would
break his neck to get on Radio or T.V. A real
nothing guy with no influence or clout.. (A
Super loser and self appointed expert on all
    things liberal)

  6. Bravo Bill! The hate that Dobbs, O’Rielly spill on TV have led to a direct increase of hate crimes against Latinos in the US, particularly Mexican Americans. Corporate America must be held accountable. Mr. Bill Addington is in fact a well known activist, and he has my support!

  7. “”Educate and inform the whole mass of the people. Enable them to see that it is their interest to preserve peace and order, and they will preserve them. And it requires no very high degree of education to convince them of this. They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty.”
–Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, 1787. [10]”

Lou Dobbs must have missed this part of his education because hate and fear mongering is the opposite of what Thomas Jefferson intended for the citizens of our nation

  8. I see I have got some attention here. Someone sent me a message my letter appeared in the NPT blog. You all can disagree, but this type of debate and discussion from both sides is what needs to happen all over our country if we are going to solve serious problems like illegal immigration. Like the related negative impacts of “free trade” agreements causing Mexican illegal immigration- NAFTA. (i.e.400% rise of Mexican illegal immigration since 1994)

You all can attack and criticize me all you want, safe behind your computer in the comfort zone of your home.

But at least, when you post, Man up and use your full Real Name. I did. I’d be happy to debate you gentlemen on this issue in person, publicity using any facts you can muster, anytime.
