City 4/10 Work Week Pilot Program Proves to Be a Success

August 27, 2009- On June 1, 2009 several City departments changed their operational hours to a 4/10 work week as part of a pilot program that was estimated to save the City over $55,000 over a three month period. The program has proven to be a success during the first two months.

Energy consumption savings resulting from the 4/10 initiative from June thru July

Electricity, -3.2%;
Natural Gas, -14.0%;
Custodial, -23.7%

One indirect benefit from the program was the reduction in City fleet fuel use. Fuel use city-wide declined by nearly 10% from the previous year, resulting in total savings over $100,000.

The program is scheduled to run thru Friday, September 4, 2009. City office hours will return to 8:00am -5:00 pm, Monday – Friday effective Tuesday, September 8, 2009 immediately following the Labor Day holiday.

  1. Clever way to distract the people from the city budget fiasco that they created.

    Also in another article, they state this new budget was designed to not reduce city services. Precisely what they claimed a couple months ago, REDUCE city services. Guess they cant remember their own press releases.
