Cobos, Perez blast from the past: “We’re pretty close friends.”

Last night, late, I was going through NPT files looking for a picture of Barbara Perez to go with this Roy Ortega Column.

So I came across this piece, from a debate between Perez and County Judge Anthony Cobos in 2006. Some interesting excerpts:

Cobos:I do want to clarify or really put a couple of things for perspective. Yes, two years ago when my opponent ran for county commissioner, not this race, I did give her $1,000. She had secured a large contribution for me from the Tiguas when I ran for office in 1999. Most people don’t know we’re pretty close friends. I announced for this office in August of last year. Three months after I announced, she announced. What does that say about friendship? Politics is a very strange animal.

Perez: I would also proudly like to say I have been endorsed by 11 different endorsements, I would like to mention three, County Judge Dolores Briones has endorsed me, city Representative Beto O’Rourke has endorsed me, and city Representative Steve Ortega.

Cobos is right, politics really is strange … all we need now is for Perez to run for county judge again with the endorsements of Cobos (if he does not run again), O’Rourke and Ortega.

  1. Is Barbara getting ready to run again? Her favorite lead sentence seems to be “I don’t know but…”

  2. Do you REALLY want orourke or ortega to run for judge or did you mean run from the judge?

They are cant even operate at the city level, have you forgotten how orourke goes into a rage when things dont go his way(demanding names of those that opposed him) and ortega doesnt decide until he checks with orourke.

  4. nothing wrong with taking sides NPT guys… it is the American way. Now, when you operate a media outlet you decide if it is going to be informative or will have an agenda and make it clear. You have an agenda, and it diminishes your work when you attack people even when they sometimes do things right. I suggest you be more balanced and report on the good things and strengths of “the other guys” when and If they are bad, people will then respect your comments a lot more. YOU grow when you can accept something good from them, and GROW AGAIN when they finally are exposed through their mistakes and errors in action and judgment. Don t try to be the nice guys, bearer of the truth, every time. Credibility suffers …

  5. Couldnt think of anything of substance or intelligent so you use insults. Should have attended Head Start and been the first in your family with some education.

Look in the mirror when insulting others just because you are frustrated and incapable of even knowing that others have a view different from yours.

  7. do we really need to be recycling tired politicias over and over?? Gandara’s appointment of BPerez to the hospital board was bad enough (what are her qualifications ? ) without her being considered for an other race. PLEASE. I guess the radio station she hosts for is getting ready to give her her walking papers and she needs something to keep her busy.
