Conservative Grassroots: Let Reyes know we do not support health care bill

E-mail received in the NPT inbox:

Now is the time we need your help. Congress will be voting on the Health Care Bill this week which could have a tremendous impact on the El Paso community. Health Care Reform is needed in the United States, but not at the expense of the American Taxpayer. Under the proposed legislation, every individual will be required to have health insurance and if you choose not to have health insurance coverage you will pay a 2.5% tax penalty; if you make over $350,000 per year you will pay a health insurance tax of 5.4%. Employers would be required to provide health insurance to their employees, or they will face a penalty of 8% of payroll greater than $500,000 per year.

The proposed Health Care Reform will only increase the federal budget deficit, and increase taxes on small businesses and individuals. The type of health care plan will no longer be a matter of choice – government health care will be mandated. This significant expansion of government passed out of a Senate committee this week. With the Obama Administration actively pushing Congress to have the health care legislation passed before their August recess, we have only two weeks to let Representative Reyes know that we do not support the proposed health care bill.

Help us get the message to Representative Reyes and forward this email, call your friends and family and let them know to join us in calling his office! We must call his office locally and in Washington, and for those of you who want to talk to him in person we encourage you to make an appointment to do so. Make your voices heard!

  1. Waste of time Congressman Reyes only takes calls for Pelosi or her lowest level assistant as I doubt she wastes time calling directly as he will jump just at the use of her name.

  2. It’s ok to say “no” but do you (you personally or professionally) have a plan? What do you think health care reform should entail? Why don’t you share it with us?

Or should we just leave health care like it is right now?

  3. Sure I have a plan – or actually have been reading a plan here on NPT that I find to be leading to a viable alternative. Just search “Tim Collins” on NPT, he has been writing a series on the topic and I find his arguments and alternate plan sensical

  4. The population needs Healthcare. We will never agree on a plan. We need to start somewhere, and I’m glad Obama has the “courage” to go forward with this.

  5. Where is it written that we have a health care crisis? People are not refused medical care in this country if they have insurance or lack insurance. We, the tax payer pay for health care for undocumented immigrants and all people who cannot pay for care. What should be controlled are the astronomical costs of medicine and hospitals. Granted all business are there to make a profit, including hospitals, but all within reason. Start there.

  6. We have the best health care in the world and we’re waiting now to see providers. What will it be like if they get this idiotic idea approved. My God, I thought the plan died with the rest of Hillary’s dumb ideas. Bill burried her nutsness under his philandering ways. At least then it was laughable. Now, not so much.
Obama is trying to shove this down our throats like he did the so called stimulus package.
    We don’t want it!

  7. Dear Congressman Reyes:
If you’re reading this, please ignore these people. They obviously haven’t a clue.

Pass health care reform with a public option now.

    Thank you.

  8. Whether or not you favor health care reform, what is the hurry? I think we, the taxpayers and citizens, should know what is in the legislation before it is voted on. It will affect all of us. We should have time to voice an opinion. I know we won’t all agree on what type of health care is best or right, but nevertheless, the contents of the bill should not be a secret and it should not be rushed. We’ll have to live with these decisions a long, long time. Let’s ask Congress to get it right!

  9. Maybe those actually voting on it should read it and debate it as well instead of simply saluting their party leaders and doing what they are told.

  10. I suspect none of those opposing a form of national health care lack the fiscal resources to buy their own coverage. Wonder if their “tune” would be different if he/she or one of their children were sick and had no money to see a provider or let alone buy the medications. Of course they sure want to have these “poor people” mow their lawn, clean their house, or watch their children. Very sad commentary on probably what are a pre-domoninate “Christian” group.

  11. Why is NPT serving as a vehicle for this kind of politically motivated tripe? I don’t think it is appropriate and lowers my opinion of NPT. The email is not a comment on one of your stories – just an attempt to organize at no cost.

  12. Bob
I would silmply avail myself of the services of our county hospital, the medical and dental care offered through YISD.

There is a myth that NO medical care is available to the poor. It is available, just not convenient (though I am not sure my “insured care” is all that convenient either as last time I went I waited 3 hours to see my doctor even with an appointment).

Within the state of texas there are 81 Public Hospitals and 152 non-profit hospitals as oppossed to 34 for-profit hospitals. Not to mention countless free clinics etc. So to say the poor are denied all medical care is a lie.

Lets at least attempt to discuss the issue with a minimum of emotion or we will end up with no room for compromise and a logical improvement

  13. More to Bob:
Bob, democracy will fail when people have the ability to vote themselves a benefit. We’re nearing that tipping point now with only 50% of the public paying federal taxes. If you don’t pay, should you be able to vote for health care for yourself that someone else will be paying for? Why not institue transportation and housing at the same time? Welfare state — here we come!

    July 21, 2009 at 1:14 pm

  14. Geez, it would be cool to disband the for-profit insurers and so-called health care corporations. I agree it is morally wrong and a conflict of interest for a health care provider or insurer to be driven by the profit motive.

What do you think, could all these self-serving milo minderbinders be divested and disbanded by legislative fiat? How do you think it could be done.

Let’s make some tracks here, instead of talking about waterloos and political defeat.

  15. This is really a tough issue and there’s alot of emotional reactions. Perhaps it would be better to slow down the process and take a more detailed study.

We can find out why the national medical sysytem is not working in Europe, Canada and Mass. Why rush into it? Too much politics on both sides.

    July 21, 2009 at 5:01 pm

  16. Carole Powell

No need to disband by fiat, stay tuned for my next opinion piece on NPT discussing the already existing government health care delivery system and a method to improve its funding through legislative changes and structural changes in operations of health care delivery infrastructure

  17. For those of you in favor of the bill… WAKE-UP. Even Congress won’t use this plan. Government can’t run Medicare, Medicaid and can’t even mail a letter! (post office is run horribly) And you all think this will work?

This has NOTHING to do with Healthcare and EVERYTHING to do with government controlling your life.

Reyes won’t answer his constituents. He’s worthless and needs to be voted out. It’s obvious he’s Nancy Pelosi’s b****.

Take a look at what actually is in the Health Care bill:

Pg 22 of the HC Bill mandates the Government will audit books of all
employers that self insure. Can you imagine what that will do to small
businesses? Every one will abandon self insurance and go on Government
insurance. So when Obama says that there will still be private health
care, itis simply a lie: this mandate will force employers to abandon
    their private plans.

Pg 30 Sec 123 of HC bill a Government committee (good luck with that!)
will decide what treatments/benefits a person may receive.

Pg 29 lines 4-16 in the HC bill – YOUR HEALTHCARE WILL BE RATIONED! (We
all knew this, because health care is rationed in Canada and Britain, but
Obama kept saying it would not be).

Pg 42 of HC Bill The Health Choices Commissioner will choose your HC
Benefits for you. You will have no choice!

PG 50 Section 152 in HC bill – HC will be provided to ALL non US citizens,
    illegal or otherwise.

finances and a National ID Healthcard will be issued!

Pg 59 HC Bill lines 21-24 Government will have direct access to your bank
    accts for election funds transfer

PG 65 Sec 164 is a payoff subsidized plan for retirees and their families
in Unions & community organizations (read: ACORN).

Pg 72 Lines 8-14 Government will create an20HC Exchange to bring private
    HC plans under Government control.

PG 84 Sec 203 HC bill – Government mandates ALL benefit packages for
private HC plans in the Exchange.

PG 85 Line 7 HC Bill – Specifics of Benefit Levels for Plans = The
    Government will ration your Healthcare!

PG 91 Lines 4-7 HC Bill – Government mandates linguistic appropriate
services. Example – Translation for illegal aliens.

Pg 95 HC Bill Lines 8-18 The Government will use groups, i.e. ACORN &
Americorps, to sign up individuals for Government HC plan.

PG 85 Line 7 HC Bill – Specifics of Benefit Levels for Plans. AARP members
    – your Health care WILL be rationed.

-PG 102 Lines 12-18 HC Bill – Medicaid Eligible Individuals will be
automatically enrolled in Medicaid. No choice.

pg 124 lines 24-25 HC No company can sue Government on price fixing. No
    “judicial review” against Government Monopoly.

pg 127 Lines 1-16 HC Bill – Doctors/ AMA – The Government will tell YOU
    what you can earn.

Pg 145 Line 15-17 An Employer MUST auto enroll employees into public
    option plan. NO CHOICE.

    their families.

Pg 149 Lines 16-24 ANY Employer with payroll $400k & above who does not
provide public option pays 8% tax on all payroll.

    pg 150 Lines 9-13 Businesses wit h payroll between $251k & $400k who dont
provide public option pay 2-6% tax on all payroll.

Pg 167 Lines 18-23 ANY individual who doesnt have acceptable HC according
to Government will be taxed 2.5% of income.

Pg 170 Lines 1-3 HC Bill Any NONRESIDENT Alien is exempt from individual
    taxes. (Americans will pay.)

Pg 195 HC Bill -officers & employees of HC Admin (the GOVERNMENT) will
have access to ALL Americans finances and personal records.

treated as tax” Yes, it says that.

Pg 239 Line 14-24 HC Bill Government will reduce physician services for
Medicaid. Seniors, low income, poor affected.

Pg 241 Line 6-8 HC Bill Doctors doesnt matter what specialty will
    all be paid the same.

PG 253 Line 10-18 Government sets value of Doctors time, professional
judgment, etc. Literally, value of humans.

PG 265 Sec 1131 Government mandates & controls productivity for private HC

PG 268 Sec 1141 Federal Government regulates rental & purchase of power
    driven wheelchairs.

    – welcome to rationing!

Page 280 Sec 1151 The Government will penalize hospitals for what
    Government deems preventable readmissions.

Pg 298 Lines 9-11 Doctors who treat a patient during initial admission
that results in a readmission – Government will penalize you.

    Pg 317 L 13-20 PROHIBITION on ownership/investment. Government tells
Doctors what/how much they can own.

Pg 317-318 lines 21-25,1-3 PROHIBITION on expansion – Government will
    mandate hospitals cannot expand.

pg 321 2-13 Hospitals have opportunity to apply for exception BUT
community input required. Can u say ACORN?!

    Pg335 L 16-25 Pg 336-339 – Government mandates establishment of
outcome-based measures which of course forces health care rationing.

Pg 341 Lines 3-9 Government has authority to disqualify Medicare Adv
Plans, HMOs, etc., forcing people into Government plan.

Pg 354 Sec 1177 – Government will RESTRICT enrollment of Special needs

Pg 379 Sec 1191 Government creates more bureaucracy – Telehealth Advisory
    Committee. HC by phone.

Think Senior Citizens end of life prodding.

wills, durable powers of attorney. Mandatory!

PG 425 Lines 22-25, 426 Lines 1-3 Government provides approved list of end
of life resources, guiding you in how to die.

PG 427 Lines 15-24 Government mandates program for orders for end of life.
The Government has a say in how your life ends.

Pg 429 Lines 1-9 An “advanced care planning consultant” will be used
    frequently as patients health deteriorates.

PG 429 Lines 10-12 “advanced care consultation” may include an ORDER for
end of life plans. AN ORDER from the Government to end a life!

Pg 429 Lines 13-25 – The Government will specify which Doctors can write
    an end of life order.

PG 430 Lines 11-15 The Government will decide what level of treatment you
will have at end of life.

Pg 469 – Community Based Home Medical Services/Non profit orgs. (ACORN
    Medical Services here?)

Page 472 Lines 14-17 PAYMENT TO COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATION. 1 monthly
payment to a community-based organization. (Like ACORN?)

PG 489 Sec 1308 The Government will cover Marriage & Family therapy. Which
means they will insert Government into our marriages.

Pg 494-498 Government will cover Mental Health Services including
defining, creating, rationing those services. Youd better speak up now
before you are on the “advanced care consultation” list.

Thanks for taking time to read this. Let’s put some action behind our concerns.
