NPT City: Segundo Barrio meeting tonight
This has been a matter of great controversy, but we haven’t been able to cover it. Looks like the final meeting on the issue is tonight. Anyone know what comes next, other than the June 30 City Council meeting?

The meeting will take place at the Marcos Armijo Recreation Center located at 700 Seventh Street and will begin at 6 p.m.
Since September 2008, the Neighborhood Services Division within the Department of Community and Human Development has been developing El Segundo Barrio Revitalization Plan and Strategy with the assistance of neighborhood residents, community stakeholders, neighborhood serving businesses and the Southside Neighborhood Association.
The planning process has been established by an evidence-based model which allowed residents in the neighborhood to identify issues and concerns that address the physical appearance of the neighborhood, the need to increase affordable housing, stronger safety and security through community policing and law enforcement, the need to increase effective social services, and to develop and promote educational opportunities and workforce needs for the residents living in the neighborhood.
Currently, a draft of El Segundo Barrio Revitalization Plan and Strategy has been made available on the city website:
and has been circulated throughout the neighborhood in key City facilities, non-profit and faith based locations. Residents have been notified to submit any comments or concerns regarding the content of the neighborhood plan to the Neighborhood Services Division.
Neighborhood Services plans on presenting the El Segundo Barrio Revitalization Plan and Strategy to the El Paso City Council for its approval on
June 30, 2009.
