NPT Media: More new faces at ABC-7

News release from ABC-7:

KVIA-TV ABC-7 is pleased to announce that Paul Cicala has joined the staff as weekend sports anchor & reporter, and Jorge Torres has joined as the new meteorologist for Good Morning El Paso and ABC-7 News at Noon. Paul starts on-air at ABC-7 on Saturday, June 20th. Jorge has already started work on ABC-7. He’s been seen on the station’s weekend and noon newscasts. He’ll start on Good Morning El Paso on Monday, June 15th.

Paul Cicala comes to El Paso from KESQ-TV in Palm Springs, California (a News-Press & Gazette Company station, like KVIA) where he was sports director. He has also worked at stations in Las Vegas, Nevada and Tucson. Paul is a graduate of the University of Southern California. His first TV job was with FOX Sports in Los Angeles.

Jorge Torres is a May 2009 graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology. A native of Austin, Texas, Jorge says he first became interested in weather at the age of 10 when an F5 tornado struck the town of Jarrell, Texas north of Austin.

NPT Capitol: Stay tuned for the real Lege wrapup

Ben Wright is working on a real wrapup of the Legislative session and the delegation’s inter-relationships. We’ll post it up soon. Here’s a little excerpt:

When you take into account the historic disadvantages El Paso delegations take to Austin, and the way the wheels stopped turning in the House in late May, would it be fair to pronounce the session a modest success?

If so, why are so many people in El Paso left with feelings to the contrary?

Why was the state delegation’s joint press release about a successful session greeted with a communal wry smile in the blogosphere?

The reason is that all session, the delegation has been plagued by their own bad press.

NPT blogged about the site several days ago. At the time, it stated that “This legal defense fund was created to assist with the legal fees and expenses.”

The site (click here) has since been changed.
