Dear Mr. Stafford:

I am very disappointed with the lack of journalistic ethics and obvious bias that you have demonstrated in the City Council race for District #3. You endorsed Emma Acosta, Sunday April 26th, 2009. Within a span of two weeks, the El Paso Times, your newspaper, run four articles favoring your candidate Ms. Acosta.

It is well known controversy and tabloid style reporting sells but it should not be unfairly created to favor one candidate over another and decide political races. Races for public office should be based on issues, ideas and solutions. If you must make this political campaign negative why have you chosen to disregard the truth and hide some facts?

The worst part of your attacks was done by Gustavo Reveles Acosta on April 29, 2009 he reported that Emma Acosta had filed harassment and assault complaints against me, The police department dismissed the harassment complaint for lack of substance and there was never an assault complaint against me like you reported. I spoke to Mr. Chris Lopez, your editor and he told me that Mrs. Acosta was going to file a complaint but I think that your staff never checked with EPPD. Mrs. Acosta never filed an assault complaint and lied to you. Without any hesitation; you lied to the citizens of our community.

It appears to me that you intentionally made this campaign negative, ugly and vicious. Your hostility towards me is obvious, unfair and unethical. I know you wanted Ms. Acosta to win this race but your attempts to hurt my name and reputation are malicious. It is wrong for you to use The El Paso Times as a means to deceive and manipulate people into voting for your candidate. The fair thing to do was to report all the real facts and let the voters decide.

You did a great disservice to the voters, taxpayers of El Paso and me. With this communication I am informing you that I will continue to seek the truth even if it’s thru the court system.

  1. Last time I checked, the EP Times was a business enterprise, capable of saying anything it wants to advance their business interests. Instead of trying to control what comes off of the Times’ printing press, Lozano ought to try and control what comes out of his mouth!
