NPT Capitol: Dem Gov. candidate courts El Paso politicians

Tom Schieffer, a former U.S. ambassador to Japan who wants to run for governor as a Democrat, had breakfast this morning with a selection of State Reps including Chente Quintanilla and Joe Moody. The breakfast was a get-to-know you affair.

Though El Paso is a blue city, turnout at elections is traditionally low. Meeting up with Quintanilla and Moody suggests he is testing the waters to see how El Paso could figure in an run for governor. Could this mean, for once, El Paso plays an important role in a state wide election?

Well…also at the breakfast were a bunch of reps from the DFW metropolitan area which included Tarrant County. Schieffer said earlier this session, “”When you look at the last election and you analyze where Obama lost and won, he carried four out of the five largest urban areas, but he didn’t carry Tarrant County…Well I’m from Tarrant County.” [link]
