NPT: Rail Runner to EP has a congressional champion in N.M

From Albuquerque television station KRQE:

New Mexico Congressman Harry Teague wants the state to take hard look at extending Rail Runner service south to Las Cruces and El Paso.

The trains now run along a 90 mile stretch from Belen to Santa Fe.

Teague wants a study to examine how much it would cost taxpayers and commuters for a major southern expansion of Rail Runner.

  1. An El Paso/Las Cruces bus route would seem more feasible.

  2. With potentially two states backing a plan like this – – and the potential to defer (or eliminate going from 4 to 6 lanes on I-10, this could be outstanding. We have the right of way and the rail access could go all of the way to Texas Tech. Getting it to the Airport would be even better but that would require serious right of way ($$). Maybe just an efficient bus/cab system at the end.
