NPT City: Party at Acosta’s house

City Rep. Emma Acosta is going Obama on the election, using e-mail and internet to update folks on her doings, such as this one:

You’ll See Old Friends and Meet New Friends!

This week, the weekly meeting will take place on Thursday, April 16th at 6 p.m. at my house at 8904 WH Burges. My house is located a few blocks north of Cielo Vista Mall on Hawkins. I invite you to come and have dinner, meet the other volunteers, and help me get re-elected.

The emphasis was added. Lozano accused Acosta of being ineligible to hold her seat because she claimed residency for six months when she filled out her ballot application in February 2008. She bought the home in November, giving her three months there, and the city is reviewing the issue. [link]

Acosta also has a nifty Web site, where she does a few typical political things, like list accomplishments. Because I’ve paid attention to this particular issue, I take issue with this claim:

One Billion Dollars in Transportation Projects were Approved with only a 10 % matching amount.

In fact, it’s not clear what the city’s matching commitment will be, but based on the last report by David Crowder, it’s looking more like upwards of 30 percent. [link]

Acosta also gets in a nice swipe at Lozano, who left the seat so he could run for the County Commissioners’ Court.

I am currently serving the unexpired term of the previous representative, who resigned last January 2008, to seek another political office. The district was without representation for approximately 6 months until I took office in June of 2008.

The pledge that greets visitors to her site: “I will not abandon you.”
