NPT Capitol: Tiguas still in the game (for now)

NPT spoke with a number of people this morning about the progress of a broad based (omnibus) gambling bill currently being hammered out between lawmakers and gambling interests.

Licensing Chair Ed Kuempel, R-Seguin, held another meeting with the various interests (Racinos, Casinos, Indian tribes), Monday and said that the meeting went well. Kuempel said that it would take another couple of meetings before bill language would be agreed upon. He also said that, right now, the Tiguas were still in the mix.

Doubt about the Tigua’s place in any omnibus bill had been rife over the weekend due to state Rep. Norma Chavez, D-El Paso, declaring her Tigua only bills were dead due to the criminal history of Tigua Governor Frank Paiz. So the Tiguas are still in the game (for now.)
