NPT Drug War: Napolitano on stopping weapons going south
U.S. Department of Homeland Security, April 2, 2009
STATEMENT FROM U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY SECRETARY JANET NAPOLITANO ON HER MEETINGS TODAY IN MEXICO
“I am very pleased with the productive conversations I had with my colleagues about the next steps we will take to combat drug cartel violence here in Mexico,” Secretary Napolitano said. “DHS is ramping up our efforts to prevent the smuggling of illegal weapons from the United States into the hands of drug cartels, and today’s discussions focused on the continued role the United States will play in helping Mexico to suppress cartel violence. I want to thank Attorney General Holder, Minister Gomez Mont, and Attorney General Medina Mora for their continued partnership in confronting this threat. This is an important fight, and we will ensure that both the U.S. and Mexico take steps together to stop the flow of weapons and
money across our shared border.”
