NPT City: Meet the mayor

News release from the office of Mayor John Cook. Now, before you get all conspiratorial, note that the mayor has been doing this regularly. It’s not like there’s a big billboard on the freeway announcing an event two days before the election or anything …

  1. I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing what Mayor Cook has done for El Paso for the past years and am not convinced he is the individual to lead our City for the next four years.

He has not been an effective leader and has turned over the responsibility of running the City to the City Manager and the Council Representatives.

He has turned over the responsiblility of attracting business to El Paso to a very ineffective REDCO. He actively worked to close down Asarco with “NO” plan to replace the jobs that would be lost.

He has masterminded the largest increase in taxes (property and City), fees, assessments, etc…

He has sat like a potted plant when full blown discussions over issues affecting El Paso only to “VETO” initiatives and then work behind the scenes to have other leaders threaten Council Representatives with withholding of state and federal funds from El Paso if Council overturned his “VETO.”

Not the kind of individual I will vote for to lead my City.

  2. He hasnt listened this entire term, why now all of a sudden.Have anything to do with the upcoming election?

NOW he is interested. See it for what it is, a political ploy.

9 million dollars budget shortfall, 500 million dolars in future debt. Kinda of late to be asking, what’s wrong.
