NPT Capitol: Valley boys: Follow El Paso’s ethical example

snapshot_r1_c1The Rio Grande Guardian has a story today about Harlingen City Commissioner Robert Leftwich who thinks the valley should follow El Paso’s example by pushing for stronger ethics code, given teeth by Texas law.

“I encourage Rio Grande Valley state law makers to seriously consider backing this legislation,” Leftwich told the Guardian. “I would also ask both Hidalgo and Cameron county Commissioner Courts to support this as a legislative item critical to providing taxpayer protection from the costly effects of official misconduct.”

According to the Guardian, El Paso County Attorney José Rodríguez and El Paso County Commissioner Anna Perez were in Austin this week to testify about the El Paso County ethics code legislation, filed by state Rep Marissa Marques in the House and Senator Elliot Shapleigh in the Senate.
