NPT Capitol: El Paso stimulus meeting rescheduled
News release from the office of state Rep. Norma Chavez:
El Paso Stimulus Select Committee Hearing Rescheduled
AUSTIN – Earlier this month, State Rep. Jim Dunnam, Chair of House Select Committee on Economic Stabilization Funding, announced that the Select Committee would hold a hearing in El Paso tentatively scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2009. The hearing will be rescheduled as a result of scheduling conflicts.
“The Select Committee rescheduled the hearing because of the Appropriations process. We will re-confirm a date as soon as possible,” Rep. Dunnam said.
Four of the members on the Select Committee serve on the House Committee on Appropriations, the House committee responsible for drafting the state budget. The House Appropriations Committee is scheduled to meet on Saturday, March 28th to finish drafting the House version of the state budget. State Rep. Norma Chávez serves on this committee.
“I will continue to work with Chairman Dunnam on arranging an El Paso hearing,” Rep. Chávez said. “It is important that El Paso have access to the most current information about the $15.3 billion in stimulus funds that will be made available to Texas.”
Details regarding the new hearing date will be forthcoming.
SELECT STIMULUS COMMITTEE UPDATE:
The Select Committee announced that the U.S. Department of Energy will make available $163 million to Texas as part of its Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG), as provided by the federal stimulus. EECBG funds provide state, local and tribal governments the financial resources necessary to reduce energy use and improve energy efficiency.
The City of El Paso will be allocated $5.8 million, and the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo will be allocated $110,700 in EECBG funds.
