NPT DC: Pushing Obama hard on immigration reform

There is a strong national effort not to allow immigration reform to be pushed to the back of the bus.

One element of that effort will come this evening to El Paso. The “National ‘Family Unity’ Outreach Tour” arrives at 7 p.m. tonight at Templo de Alabanza, 2111 Wyoming Ave.

Follow the jump for the news release regarding the event tonight with U.S. Representative Luis V. Gutierrez (D-IL), Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Immigration Task Force, U.S. Rep. Silvestre Reyes and El Pasoans, and the Texas and national series of events.

Document Urgency for Immigration Reform in 2009

El Paso, TX – This weekend, Texas’s faith-based communities join a national effort— spanning 17 major U.S. cities—to document the harm caused to citizens across our nation in the absence of comprehensive immigration reform.

In an unprecedented nationwide outreach tour, U.S. Representative Luis V. Gutierrez (D-IL),Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Immigration Task Force, will be joined by Rep. Silvestre Reyes (D-TX), Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX), Rep. Ruben Hinojosa (DTX), and Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) and Texas’ religious community to spearhead the “Family Unity” outreach tour.

Over a five-week period, this effort involves community meetings, prayer vigils and town-hall meetings. At each event, U.S. citizens share testimony as to how their families have been or risk being torn apart by a broken immigration system.

“No city in America has been spared the devastating effects of our broken system,” said Rep. Gutierrez. “As a nation —as citizens— we cannot wait any longer for fair and just immigration reform. Across this country, parents and children, husbands and wives are being torn apart by a system that values quotas over family values and which undermines our economic security in a time of crisis. Through this effort, Texans are standing up for real, lasting change.”

The Family Unity outreach tour has already visited Providence, RI, Atlanta, GA, Albuquerque, NM, Ontario, CA, San Francisco, CA and Phoenix AZ, where nearly 8,000 individuals have filled their community churches to capacity. They came forward to demonstrate the vast numbers of American families—from all political backgrounds—who demand change from a legal system that undermines family values.

This Friday, Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard, Rep. Xavier Becerra, Rep. Grace Napolitano, and Rep. Linda Sanchez of California will also hold a Family Unity event in Los Angeles. U.S. citizens whose families have been affected will be available at each event to share their specific stories with press.

  1. This is the biggest joke in the world that this guy, Luis Rodriguez, is coming into town. First and foremost he knows very little about the issues that affect the border and the Mexican American community. Second, he is a Puerto Rican who has actively fought for years as an “independista” to sever all ties that Puerto Rico has with the United States, thereby leaving Puerto Rico highly vulnerable to becoming a third world country or worse yet, another Cuba. Mr. Gutierrez thinks Fidel castro and Che Guevara are heroes of the people. The Independista Party in Puerto Rico is a very small but very vocal socialist Party that paints the US and its policies as demonic. Third, anyone who comes from Illinois, one of the most endemically corrupt places in the US, to talk to us should be listened to with a wide open ear.
This is the best we can do…Gutierrez?????!!!!!

  2. The age-old pesky U.S.-Mexico border problem has taxed the resources of both countries, led to long lists of injustices, and appears to be heading only for worse troubles in the future. Guess what? The border problem can never be solved. Why? Because the border IS the problem! It’s time for a paradigm change.

Never fear, a satisfying, comprehensive solution is within reach: the Megamerge Dissolution Solution. Simply dissolve the border along with the failed Mexican government, and megamerge the two countries under U.S. law, with mass free 2-way migration eventually equalizing the development and opportunities permanently, with justice and without racism, and without threatening U.S. sovereignty or basic principles.
