NPT Capitol: Quintanilla bill would provide local vote on gaming

State Rep. Chente Quintanilla is getting into the gambling game. He filed HJR 99, which proposes “a constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature to legalize and regulate the conduct of gaming in this state in counties that by local option approve the conduct of that gaming.”

In a news release, Quintanilla said: “Every session big gaming interests file bills that focus on their interests. The bills fail to pass and the opportunity for the voters to decide is lost. This joint resolution will finally allow Texans to say yes to gaming.”

According to the news release, the bill would allow each county to decide whether gaming is allowed, and if it passed, the House and Senate would begin a process to write a bill.

  1. It’s about time. Now Texans can keep more of thier money here in Texas and not in neighboring states.
