NPT Media: Roy Ortega: “I enjoyed my time there”

Yesterday this blog posted an item that Roy Ortega was no longer with the times. [link]

NPT had a brief conversation with Roy Ortega Thursday. Ortega, 55, said he could not speak in detail about the newspaper, but offered a few comments:

— About his future: “I’m moving on. I’ve got one boy in college, and that’s a concern, but my wife and I have been preparing for this.”

— About the Times: “I enjoyed my time there. I’ve got nothing bad to say about it.”

— Next few weeks: “I’m going to take a little bit of time off, kind of decompress and move on to something else.”

— Ortega went through a brief work stoppage before, when he left Channel 9 KTSM in 1999 and didn’t work for nine months. He was hired by the Times in 2000.

— His hometown is San Antonio, where he said he will be shortly to finish with his parents’ estate. After that, “I’ll go to the coast with my brother and fish. Then I’ll come back and get real about things.”
