NPT Capitol: Marquez clarifies regarding her Moreno Resolution

marquezState Rep. Marisa Marquez, D-El Paso, made a few things clear surrounding her filing of a concurrent resolution (HCR) last week honoring Paul Moreno. According to Marquez, Moreno was in fact contacted by her district office, prior to the resolution being filed, but due to ill health was unable to comment for the press release.

“They (the district office) spoke briefly. He was excited…he thanked us and he is looking forward to being on the floor, so we have to wait and see if his health will be a problem and he can make it,” said Marquez. Furthermore, Senator Eliot Shapleigh was also contacted prior to filing. He agreed to carry the bill in the Senate.

“Frankly, I see it as an act of statemanship on Marisa’s part…she has taken a step,I think it is a wise step, to honor his legacy,” said Shapleigh. Finally, state Rep Joe Pickett, D-El Paso, was asked yesterday (and agreed) to be a co-sponsor of the bill in the House.

  1. How again was this ever considered an issue?

  2. This is a class act on the part of State Rep. Marisa Marquez.
She’s setting a good and noble example by extending a friendly, courteous and professional gesture in recognition of Paul Moreno and the excellent representation he’s given to our community.

  3. Taking a cue from President Barack Obama, Marissa Marquez is once again proving that Democrats are the Party of Inclusion. I’m so happy for Paul, that he will be honored on the House Floor. I hope he’s healthy enough to travel to receive his well-deserved honor. Marquez is proving once again that some politicians can be civil and accord each other equal respect. I’ve always felt that politicians are, for the largest part, honest, courageous, and caring of their constituents. Marquez has proved me right. Gracias.

  4. The Dumbocrats are the party of Inclusion? Give me a BREAK!
They shoved the stimulus package down our throats and fought any debate.
    Osama is acting like King.
You think the Dumbocrats are the party of Inclusion? At the next party meeting, just try suggesting that you are Pro-Life. They will boo you out of the room.

  6. Richard once again proves that name calling and irrational thinking is what some Republicans are made of. They shoved so much garbage down our throats for the last 8 years and got us into the economic mess we’re in now and Richrd complains. Tell me Richard, what is it Republicans did for the last 8 years except divide the country and help who? Please, whatever you’re smoking don’t inhale. You might just get more delirious.

  7. Too bad all the people who rallied around Moreno didn’t plan for a successor to replace him instead of Marquez winning by default.
