NPT Capitol: Margarita Madness, that’s how El Paso rolls

Ok, seriously, El Paso Days in Austin is THE major effort for public officials and assorted movers and shakers to put El Paso’s priorities in front of key lawmakers and bureaucrats in Austin. This year’s event is Tuesday and Wednesday, and is packed with daily meetings with El Paso’s legislators, the governor, lieutenant governor, speaker of the house, and so on. The two days of events is expected to be so highly attended that the El Paso City Council is meeting Monday instead of Tuesday this week, so they all can go — they’ve even been briefed on how to behave so they do not run afoul of Open Meetings laws, because there’s going to be a quorum.

Speaking of a quorum, the highlight, perhaps, is Tuesday night’s Margarita Madness. Everyone knows the lege is lubricated by good cheer, and El Paso is inviting the entire legislature (with margarita glass invitations) to the event, where folks can sip drinks themed on El Paso’s priorities: Medical School Margaritas, Miner Margaritas, Mission Trail Margaritas and Military Margaritas.

  1. Hope the El Paso delegation will be serving good tequila. 100% Agave Azul and nothing less!

  2. I wonder if it’s going to be co-sponsored by Dos Lunas. El Paso Pride, baby.

  3. The Chamber asked Dos Lunas, and were told they would donate one bottle for a raffle item so we got tiny Cuervo (white)for the Margarita glass invitation, complete with salt and a fresh lime. (Too bad 😦 it isn’t El Paso brand tequila)

El Paso Days is now one of the better if not best attended days at the Capitol! (Senators, State Reps, and Speaker are already rsvp’ed). Dayoub and staff deserve a Margarita for all their good work to secure sponsors and coordinate the event!!

Ft Bliss expansion, Texas Tech med school third building, Tier 1 status for UT El Paso, and the opening of Speaking Rock Casino are some of the agenda items and lots of elected and political leaders from El Paso will be in pound the pavement at the Capitol.

The raffle includes a signed Amado Pena print donated by Rep. Chavez, Spira tennis, AT&T golf bag,and tiny Tigua sage bag key chains!! How cool is that!!

Nothing like El Paso hospitality at the Capitol.
